Congress Passes Bill Banning Caller ID Spoofing
On April 15, the House of Representatives passed the Truth in Caller ID Act of 2010, which bans the transmission of misleading or inaccurate caller ID information "with the intent to defraud, cause harm, or wrongfully obtain anything of value." EPIC recommended this intent requirement in testimony before the House in 2006 and 2007, and before the Senate in 2007 so that privacy techniques would be protected.
