Civil Society Launches Campaign for Privacy Convention

A coalition organized by the Public Voice is urging support for the Council of Europe Privacy Convention. At present, forty-one countries have ratified the Convention. The coalition is pushing for ratification in the countries that have not adopted the convention. In the United States, the Privacy Coalition has proposed a resolution for the U.S. Senate. According to one source, the "Convention has withstood the test of time by being adaptive and fairly rigorous. Today the principles of this agreement are being examined for their applicability to the collection and processing of biometric data."
