EPIC Sues CISA for Report on Security Vulnerabilities in Telecommunications Networks

June 14, 2025

EPIC filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit on June 4 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia challenging the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s inadequate responses to a FOIA request submitted by EPIC in March 2024 and appealed within the agency in December 2024. In April 2025, Senator Ron Wyden chastised the agency for withholding the document, saying that: “based on my staff’s review of this report…[it] contains important factual information that the public has a right to see and CISA should stop withholding the entire report under a purported ‘deliberative process privilege’ claim.” EPIC has repeatedly called for the release of this report. EPIC has a robust FOIA program, and regularly advocates for stronger cybersecurity to protect our communications networks.
