Panel and Q&A: Examining the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Applications

6 Mar. 2:00 PM EDT

EPIC’s AI and Human Rights Program Lead and Global Privacy Counsel Calli Schroeder will participate in the University of Colorado, Boulder Silicon Flatirons Center’s panel “Examining the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Applications” panel.  The event will be in Room 207 at the Wolf Law Building, Wittemyer Courtroom, and available via livestream on March 6 from 12 pm – 1:15 pm MT / 2 pm – 2:15 pm ET

Event Description: Join us for a discussion analyzing the myriad of ethical issues related to rapidly increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare applications.  AI has tremendous potential to enhance the provision of care through improved diagnostic accuracy, data and imaging analysis, patient monitoring, engagement, and personalization, risk and error prevention, administrative task automation, and cost reductions. Yet the healthcare industry’s increasing reliance on AI also introduces numerous ethical concerns related to data privacy and security, bias and fairness, patient autonomy, reliability, quality control, safety, and job security, implicating fundamental ethical principles such as accountability, trust, and transparency. A slate of experts will consider and discuss current trends, developments, and thinking around these critical issues.

Calli will be joined by panelists Doug Chapnick, Founder & CEO of BioLoomics, Inc., Kathleen Snow Sutton, shareholder at Polsinelli, and moderator Harry Surden, Professor of Law at the University of Colorado Law School.
