A renewed push would also likely have backing from consumer privacy groups such as the Electronic Privacy Information Center, whose Deputy Director Caitriona Fitzgerald told Law360 on Monday that it was “disappointing to see” S.B. 1047 and other bills that “would have provided Californians with stronger protections from commercial surveillance and harmful AI systems vetoed by Gov. Newsom under pressure from Big Tech.”
