Law360: Groups Seek To Sway FCC’s Campaign Ad AI Disclosure Plan

The Electronic Privacy Information Center earlier this month lauded the FCC’s push to “safeguard the public from the harms of false, misleading, and deceptive AI-generated political content,” but worried that without more provisions, the disclosure and transparency rules “will be ineffective at mitigating the harmful effects of using AI-generated content in political ads.”

Specifically, EPIC wants the disclosures to make clear which aspects of political ads are AI-generated, techniques to verify the existence of AI content, and restraints on “the most harmful and distortive broadcasts.”

EPIC said the agency needs to move beyond “vague disclosures” and require on-air announcements to explain what aspects of a political ad are created, altered or otherwise influenced by an AI system.
