EPIC Submits Comments Calling on the CFPB to Strengthen Consumer Reporting Protections

October 30, 2023

Today EPIC called on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to strengthen protections for consumers in response to the CFPB’s outline of proposals under consideration for its upcoming rulemaking focusing on credit reporting. EPIC commended the CFPB for proposing rules that will better protect consumers. We urged the CFPB to promulgate rules that strengthen and clarify Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) coverage to “ensure that individuals continue to be protected from harms caused by consumer reporting agencies—including data brokers—given dramatic changes in technology and the state of the market.”

EPIC has previously engaged with the Bureau’s work on this issue through our January 2023 comments on the CFPB’s Rulemaking on Personal Financial Data Rights, our February 2023 coalition letter regarding credit header data, and our July 2023 comments in response to the Bureau’s Request for Information regarding data brokers.
