POLITICO: Lawmakers pass milestone privacy bill overshadowed by TikTok fever 

The bill “would be an important step in the right direction to rein in data brokers, but it would not do enough by itself to protect national security,” Caitriona Fitzgerald, the deputy director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center, said. 

EPIC and other groups have been pushing for a broader federal law to limit data collection and put more controls over the data-broker industry in general, rather than focusing purely on China and other adversaries.
