WGME: New online privacy bill could allow Mainers to stop their personal information from being tracked, sold

“There are trackers on all of those websites sending information back to Facebook, Google, about everything we do online,” Caitriona Fitzgerald of the Electronic Privacy Information Center said. 

… They say the only way to stop it is for Maine to do what a dozen other states have already done: pass a privacy law. 

“This would largely prohibit that practice, because if companies can’t use that for targeted advertising, there’s less of a motivation to collect that information,” Fitzgerald said.
