EPIC Statement on Recent Attacks Against the CFPB

November 27, 2024

EPIC released the following statement in response to recent attacks launched against the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB):

“Water is wet. Dog bites man. Corporate interests attack consumer protections. Despite the tired smears recycled by critics today, the truth is that the CFPB is one of the most effective champions for the public interest anywhere in government, enforcing laws to stop shady financial institutions, fly-by-night lenders, and ruthless data brokers from commercially exploiting us and commodifying every scrap of our personal data. That work has been both phenomenally successful and phenomenally popular, benefitting privacy, national security, and consumers’ pocketbooks at every turn. It’s no surprise that people who don’t have the public interest at heart are furious at a regulator that does. We look forward to the CFPB carrying that work forward into the next administration.” —John Davisson, Director of Litigation, Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC)
