Center for HIV Law and Policy: What We Do Now: Data Privacy and Public Health in the Authoritarian Police State

On July 16, EPIC Senior Counsel and Consumer Privacy Program Director Sara Geoghegan participated in a panel about health data surveillance and criminalization.

What We Do Now: Data Privacy and Public Health in the Authoritarian Police State situated HIV justice within the broader movement for privacy, public health, and freedom from criminalization. It was recorded for NACCHO360, the largest annual gathering of local health department leaders and public health professionals in the United States, hosted by the National Association of County and City Health Officials.

The discussion, which was convened by the Center for HIV Law and Policy, examined threats to health data privacy, the dangerous flow of public health information into criminal legal systems, and strategies for protecting marginalized and overpoliced communities.
