On Thursday, April 24, EPIC Executive Director and President Alan Butler and Deputy Director Caitriona Fitzgerald will speak at “The United States of Surveillance Capitalism vs. The Rule of Law” organized by Harvard Kennedy School’s Carr Center for Human Rights Policy. The panel will run from 4:30 – 6:00 pm ET at the Malkin Penthouse.

Event Description: As tech companies continue to amass power and influence governments, the rule of law itself is in question. Join Shoshana Zuboff (moderator), Alan Butler, Rohit Chopra, Caitriona Fitzgerald, and Jonathan Kantor as they look at the current high-stakes clash between the competing institutional orders of surveillance capitalism and democracy – most notably seen in the destructive forces of Elon Musk and DOGE. The panelists will engage with the legal, regulatory, and institutional challenges posed by these dynamics and consider whether strategic litigation and other legal innovations can provide viable pathways for democratic restoration and resistance to institutional degradation in the United States.

Note: This event is only open to HUID holders and pre-registration is required. Registration does not guarantee admission: attendees will be seated on a first-come, first-serve basis.
