PRESS RELEASE: Four Leading Privacy Experts and Advocates Join EPIC’s Advisory Board

June 30, 2026

Washington DC – Today, the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) announced the addition of four new members to its Advisory Board. Since its establishment, EPIC’s work has been informed by the expertise of leading scholars, experts, and advocates in the fields of privacy, technology policy, and digital rights. We are excited to see the expansion of this group today.

“EPIC is excited to welcome four new experts who share our commitment to protecting privacy and defending democracy in an increasingly surveilled world. From youth advocacy to privacy enforcement to democracy-driven philanthropy, they bring exactly the range of expertise we need to take on the powerful government and corporate interests threatening our rights online. We are grateful for their commitment and excited by what we can accomplish together, said EPIC Executive Director Alan Butler.

As both industry and government increasingly abuse our data, we need guidance from experts who understand what real accountability looks like and how to achieve it. The expertise of these advisors will be critical as EPIC deepens its state-level advocacy, litigation, and public education efforts.

The new members are:

  • Zamaan Qureshi – Zamaan Qureshi is an advocate, policy expert, and strategist focused on tech accountability, online safety, and privacy. He is the co-founder and Director of Campaigns and Policy at Design It For Us, where he leads advocacy on emerging technology policy, builds coalitions, and drives the youth online safety movement. His work has been featured in national media for elevating young voices in the fight for a safer digital world. He is a graduate of American University, where he earned a B.A. in international studies and political science. Zamaan is on the 2025 Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
  • Ashkan Soltani – Ashkan Soltani is an independent researcher and technologist specializing in privacy, security, and technology policy. He served as the inaugural Executive Director of the California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA), the first data protection authority in the United States, where he built the agency from the ground up and oversaw implementation and enforcement of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Delete Act. Before the CPPA, Soltani was the Chief Technologist for the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), where he helped establish the Office of Technology Research and Investigation.
  • Erie Meyer – Erie Meyer is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Law and the Economy, where she focuses on the intersection of technology, privacy, and economic fairness. She previously served as a Senior Fellow at the Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator and at the Georgetown Institute for Technology Law and Policy. She served as Chief Technologist and Senior Advisor to the Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, where she helped lead efforts to address Big Tech’s expansion into financial services and was part of the original team that launched the agency in 2011. She also served as Chief Technologist and Director of Policy Planning for FTC Chair Lina Khan and co-founded the U.S. Digital Service at the White House.
  • Ian Fuller – Ian Fuller is CEO of Westfuller and co-head of Bivium Westfuller, an investment advisory group providing strategy and management for values-aligned global institutions and private clients seeking impact. He co-leads the firm’s commitment to advancing justice and equity, public purpose finance, community infrastructure, and climate sustainability. Ian serves as Board Chair of the Marguerite Casey Foundation, a justice-focused foundation committed to shifting power and building an inclusive economy, and as Board Member and Investment Committee Chair of ImpactAssets and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.

With the guidance of these new members, EPIC looks forward to continuing its important work to promote transparency, strengthen accountability, and protect privacy and civil liberties for all people in the digital age.
