The Times: Want to go to the World Cup? Britons warned over social media checks

Jeramie Scott, senior counsel at the Electronic Privacy Information Center, said the demand for email addresses is “a very intrusive expansion of the vetting that calls into question how that information is being used”. 

He added: “Given what we publicly know about how the current administration has gone after people who espouse views the administration doesn’t like, you can imagine there are some similar problems that you may have with emails that you would find in their social media vetting.”
