EPIC Testifies in Support of Colorado Bill on Surveillance Pricing and Wages
March 16, 2026
EPIC Senior Counsel Calli Schroeder testified Thursday before the Colorado House Business & Labor Committee in support of a bill that would protect Coloradans from algorithms exploiting their personal data to set individual prices on goods and services or wage amounts.
The bill, HB26-1210, seeks to address companies feeding swathes of personal data into automated decision systems to charge the highest possible prices and offer the lowest possible wages that an individual will accept. The bill is carefully tailored to stop this predatory, unfair, and privacy-invasive practice while still allowing for transparent and fair discount and loyalty offerings and human discretion in wage offerings.
“Coloradans reasonably expect to pay the same prices as their neighbors for products and to receive fair pay for their work – not have their personal data exploited to more efficiently empty their wallets,” Schroeder stated in testimony.
