EPIC Testifies in Support of Strong New Mexico AI Bill

EPIC Law Fellow Kara Williams testified in support of H.B. 60, the New Mexico Artificial Intelligence Act.

The bill would regulate the development and use of high-risk AI systems in consequential decisions, such as decisions about employment, education, housing, health care, financial services, and insurance.

This bill would provide transparency into AI systems by requiring companies to disclose certain information about them, and it would give consumers and workers important rights if AI systems are used in decisions about them. If New Mexico residents are harmed, H.B. 60 would also give them the right to hold companies accountable in court through a private right of action.

The House Judiciary Committee voted to advance the legislation, which will now go to the House floor.
